This Week’s Panel

Some meandering thoughts on the panelists for this Sunday’s “What’s My Line? - Live On Stage”…

Len Wein makes his 12th appearance as a panelist and his 13th overall. He started as a regular guest, with the occupation “Comic Book Writer.” Yet even that’s not enough for him. Even when he’s not ON the show, Len is usually AT the show. And when he can’t be there, he’s usually with us AFTER the show, hungry for details about what he missed. He is one of the real sharks we love having on the panel –a great thinker and a great sport.

Rick Overton makes his first return trip to the panel after a long hiatus. He was on our show back in February of 2005 but got a lot of mileage out of it –that was the night the Los Angeles Times came to the show and Rick’s photo appeared in the nice piece the Times wrote about us. I actually ran into Rick at a party last night and was reminded again what a warm and supportive fellow he is. Also, he is savagely funny. And a multiple Emmy-winner.

Another multiple Emmy-winner is Nancy Pimental. She also is charming and modest. Nancy was in the audience at one of our first shows. She wrote me a nice e-mail and said she had done some TV work and that maybe I’d know who she was and I’d want her on the panel. I said I knew EXACTLY who she was and would LOVE to have her on the panel. She’s been a hit every time.

Felicia Day is our rookie. I’ve known Felicia for a few years through doing improv at the Empty Stage, and from various shows at ACME. It turns out that Felicia has been on a game show panel with Len, but I’ll probably let Len tell that story on stage. I ran into Felicia this week at a commercial audition. (She’ll probably book hers. I probably won’t.) I don’t think Felicia will mind my telling you that she couldn’t do the show last week because she had to play Dungeons & Dragons. I think that’s adorable.

Finally, our guest hostess this week is Natasha Leggero. Natasha was on the panel a couple weeks ago and will be on again next week. She had such the air of a Dorothy Kilgallen mixed with a Carol Merrill, we just had to offer her the hostess opportunity while Claudia is out rehearsing a show. I also ran into Natasha at a commercial audition this week. I don’t think either of us will get it.

See you Sunday –and holy crap, it’s a great lineup of guests again this week.
