Tick Tock

I’ve spent almost all day with adorable and loving children. I came home to two adorable and loving cats. It’s not quite the same.

I’m 36 and single. I don’t much care if my name or seed gets passed on, but there’s something to be said for a lump of love that can talk back to you, that can laugh, that you can put in a booster seat at Chili’s.

Could I have a biological clock? Or a spiritual clock? Something that’s rustling me, saying, “Wake up. Expand. You have more love to give.”?

There are as many reasons to have children as there are children –maybe more. What seems appealing to me at the moment is the idea of being forced to participate in life. Not just in the daily pursuit of potty and paychecks, but in proving who I am by who I help a child to become. It seems like the most selfish and selfless thing, all at once.

…So I’m updating my profile on JDate.

  1. “It seems like the most selfish and selfless thing, all at once.” — I couldn’t agree more. Keep in mind that there are endless ways to share this love you have to give. I think it benefits us all by having children in our lives but you can have children in your life without creating a new one. 6 BILLION miracles are more than enough — our planet canNOT sustain them all for much longer and there are so many who lack the love that you’re willing to give. By giving what you can to someone already here that word “selfish” kind of drops from the equation. Just my 2¢ worth.

    And kitty love is awesome!

  2. Thanks, Laura. I agree that there are too many people already. I do think we need to care for those who are here now. Don’t think I’m ready to adopt though, but giving is important. I’m gonna post a KIVA widget soon. I think that kitty love is awesome too.
