It’s Just Not The Same
I’m not glum. It is baseball, after all. It is the hallowed ground where Ruth played. Where the Angels dominate like no other team. And the tickets were free.
But man, I miss my Halos and I miss ‘em something awful.
David Eckstein leads off for the Jays so at least I have some connection. But folks here boos when he hustles out a bunt. There’s no mercy or appreciation for anything non-Yankee.
With runners on and no out, the Yankees leadoff hitter swings away, and the inning quickly ends with nothing. Later in the same situation, the new manager bunts 2 batters in a row, scoring a run. The crowd seems stunned. Why pay tens of millions of dollars and only win the game by one run? And on a bunt?
But I see baseball –Angels baseball– and I wish it were Chone and Howie putting on the squeeze, with Torii racing home. We know how to appreciate those things. We know how to treat people. We know how to make everyone feel welcome.
Let’s go Angels.
