The $50 Fill-Up
It would be one thing if I had a big SUV or an RV or anything else with a V. But I don’t. I have a 17.4-gallon tank in my small convertible (though even when i’ve run out of fuel on the curb next to a gas station, I don’t think it held that much).
To interrupt my itinerary and pull into the Chevron because I found a good price and have that price be $3.85 is an outrage. I haven’t bought gas in 3 months so I haven’t had the gradual buildup that most Americans have. It’s a shock and it’s not OK.
When our President’s solution is limited to asking a Saudi king to produce more oil (and he’s politely rebuffed) and the oil companies report record profits, and neither are met with mass protests or strikes by the people, it tells me that at the end of the day, Americans are OK with the prices continuing to climb.
It takes more than answering a survey, giving a soundbite, or, yes, posting to a blog, to make it better.
Let’s do something.
